Frequently asked questions about re-edits

  1. What is a re-edit?

After AJE has edited a paper and the author submits their document to a journal, the peer review process often leads to additional revisions to the manuscript. After making these revisions, some authors wish to have their paper proofread again before sending the final version to the journal. Since the paper has already been edited by AJE, it will be considered a re-edit and will receive a 20% discount off of another round of AJE editing.
  2. How do I submit a paper for a re-edit?

If you wish to submit your paper for a re-edit, please login to your account and select 'View Submissions', then 'Submissions in the past two years'. Click 'Submit for re-edit' under your original submission.

Next, follow the steps to submit your manuscript as usual through your account choosing the level of editing, turnaround time, word count, etc. Please note: to reduce your word count and thus your costs even further, you may choose to submit only the parts of the paper that were revised and are in need of proofreading. When you complete the payment step, you will see that the 20% re-edit coupon has automatically been applied to your invoice.
  3. May I include additional text in the re-edit, such as the response to reviewers?

Some authors choose to include their response to reviewers in the re-edit, and some additional text is expected when revising a document.
  4. What is the discount on a re-edit?

We offer a 20% discount to re-edit the revised version of a paper previously edited by AJE.
  5. Can I use the re-edit discount for a new submission?

Since it will take the editor less time to review a previously-edited document, the re-edit discount is only available for previously-reviewed AJE submissions and cannot be used for a new document. Papers submitted for a re-edit will be subject to verification that the original document was previously reviewed by AJE.
  6. May I use an existing coupon on my account in addition to the 20% re-edit discount?

Coupons are not restricted, and you may use any available coupons in your account at any time. If your document is a custom submission larger than 12000 words, you will still receive the 20% re-edit discount, however, additional coupons will have a maximum discount of $50 each.
  7. What about the AJE editing guarantee?

AJE stands behind the quality of our work. We are confident that our editing will improve your chances of publication. If your manuscript is rejected from publication for reasons of English alone, and we believe that you have made a good faith effort to incorporate our changes, we will re-edit your original manuscript for free.

If you believe that your paper is eligible for a free re-edit, please contact AJE Support and attach the exact paper you submitted to the journal and all of the reviewers' comments. A managing editor will review your request and reply to you promptly.
